Boosting Rosalie’s ego was something that you never wanted to do, especially if you could hear her thoughts. Edward and her had two very different reactions to finding out that they were in fantasies of those at school. It disturbed Edward to quite a large degree while Rosalie beamed at the idea. He wasn’t one to pride himself on appearance like his sister and the fact that their imaginations could be so vivid was more then annoying. Of course Edward knew exactly how to manipulate certain humans into doing what he wanted, changing his expressions a bit and using his voice to its full potential. Nearly always got him what he wanted. It could be amusing at times depending on his mood as well, hearing the constant reminders they gave themselves to breath, some not even being able to remember how to talk. It was cruel on a level in his opinion and rarely did that. Edward hadn’t even let on he’d known about the fantasies involve Rosalie in Emmett’s presence, he wasn’t stupid knowing what would happen to the poor human boys.
He smiled and shrugged his shoulders, “I’ll have to try harder to hide it next time” he said with nonchalance having no intentions of actually doing what he said. “No it did, just not enough to make extra work for the custodial staff.” Edward said. He ignored her little smirk that he knew had to do with the fact that he’d agreed with her about Forks, he wasn’t going to argue the point. Naturally he jumped through minds around the cafeteria and the one day he wanted to hear his name within thoughts there was nothing, nothing could be any more irritating, well except for the fact that one mind was completely off limits, but he’d get past that. “No I haven’t” he said, his brow furrowing just slightly, it bothered him that he hadn’t head yet, he needed to start paying attention again. As his eyes looked away, though keeping them away from Bella as well knowing that wouldn’t help in not thinking about how she smelt. Glancing back at her, hearing her sarcastic reply he gave a small eye roll “Well are you going to tell me?” he asked simply, pretty curious as to now.

Rosalie knew her ego was bad, but she didn't particularly care. In her opinion, Edward shouldn't be peering into her mind! Rosalie actually was beaming that boys had liked her enough to have screwed up fantasies about her, screwed up to the point where it bothered Edward a lot. (She'd keep a mental 'thank-you' in the back of her mind). Though she was somewhat flattered, she was still majorly digusted. She would never do that with them, the humans. Rosalie loved her appearance and everyone knew it, anyone who knew her knew it. One of her favorite things to do (besides annoy Edward) was getting what she wanted, which became easier with her beauty. All of the Cullen's had their own ways of getting what they wanted at the school, stores, etc. Rosalie, in particular, would just make sure her beauty is fully aware of from the other person. With males, it was easier, especially male teenagers. She would normally just give a flirty wink or smile. It almost always got her whatever she desired. Rosalie couldn't hear their thoughts like Edward could, but she had a feeling -judging from their rapid heartbeat- that they were freaking out a lot. It was a cruel thing to do, but Rosalie wasn't willing to give that 'ability' up.
Rosalie rolled her eyes again at his response. "Well, I could care less about the custodial staff.” she mocked, but in a low whisper that human ears couldn't pick up. She spoke like that because a custodian was not that far from the table Edward and Rosalie sat at. “Wow. I hear something before you do; imagine that.” she replied being half-sarcastic. Rosalie noticed Edward looking away from her to just scan the cafeteria. Yes, he did do this often, something to deal with hearing the humans' thoughts, but to Rosalie, it seemed as if he was doing it more often. She decided not to say anything, but just to continue to talk to him as if she hadn't noticed anything."It's not that major, but this girl in my English class was talking about you. And how this freshman or sophomore is appearantly, obssesed with you. The girl was saying how she'd -quote- 'totally take that piece of fresh-meat down' to get to you. Unquote." she made a face after she recited the girl's exact words, matching the tone perfectly.

For a vampire Edward had a nearly non-existent ego, appearance didn’t matter to him, his rare simple wardrobe reflected that. He hardly believed he was as attractive as the female race thought he was. Especially if you compared him to Rose, you would see a complete difference. Edward had the urge to take the time and explain what would happen to those girls if even ever got that close to them like they wished but he would never do it. Even though he knew it would stop the fantasies, at least he believed it would. Edward was the perfect predator, had the alluring scent, the vampire beauty and the words came all to easy to him. He’d noticed this when he’d ventured away from the vegetarian diet before Rosalie joined the family. It was so easy to hunt humans, but he hated doing it, couldn’t handle the guilt. Of course he used it now and again when he wanted to get something that would be denied if he didn’t have the advantage, flash a perfect smile allow his words to come out effortlessly and the girls were putty in his hands, not something he did often though. The fact that he could act in accordance to their thoughts gave him an unneeded advantage as well. It was a bit amusing to see that Rosalie barely had to utter a word and she had them hooked.
He laughed slightly, “Why is that not surprising?” he teased in a low voice, yet she’d hear him perfectly. “Though he isn’t too impressed by what you did” Edward said having heard the ungrateful thoughts of the custodian, not like he’d confront Rosalie, Edward was sure the man wouldn’t’ have been able to form his words into a sentence let alone anything else. “It does happen, rarely but it does” he retorted of course, had he not been driving away thoughts of ways in which he could kill the new girl then he’d have heard it. But having Rosalie drag it out like this was having him on edge, he hated not knowing. Edward noticed Rosalie picking up on his more frequent adverted gaze and looked back to her just as she spoke. He nodded when she said it wasn’t that major, that was good. It was odd to hear her speak like that involving him, even though he knew she was just reciting, it was still odd. “A bit ironic how they talk about one another as food isn’t it” Edward said a smile on his lips, only a vampire could find that amusing. “Any idea who the ‘fresh-meat’ she’s going to take down? Seeing as I’m unaware of her having to get through someone to get to me.” Edward said, it was always amusing how they fantasized yet none dared to come close enough to actually talk to him.

Rosalie had never drank human blood. She only killed seven men, careful not to spill their blood, knowing how tempting it would be for she was still a mere newborn at the time. She only killed them for what they did to her. Those sick, psychotic, drunken men who had led her to this vampire life. Rosalie had heard of when Edward left the coven for a 'rebellious period'. This was before she came along, so she only heard tales of it. When he hunted the humans, she pitied Edward. He had to hear the thoughts of his victims. That's how she feels for Jasper, having to feel exactly what his victims would be feeling before they were about to meet their death. Rosalie had the same ability that Edward to the female population but to the males. It amused her, how simple men were manipulated by beautiful females. Though it did help her when she wanted something that she was denied of.
"Because you know me." Rosalie replied in a 'duh' tone. She caught a glance at him through her vampiric, peripheral vision and rolled her eyes. She said to Edward in response, still speaking low, "Oh, boo-hoo. Look who has to work now; It's not like he'll say anything." She let out a small scoff, "Tell me about it.. You must be too focused on something else as of now." Rosalie pressed as she raised an eyebrow, wanting to hear why he was averting his eyes away from the table more often. Rosalie chuckled, smirking, “I'll say.” Rosalie's eyebrow raised higher, “Do you honestly think I'm going to be keeping an eye on freshmen girls who obsess over you?" Surely Edward was smarter than that. She thought to herself.

For three years Edward survived off of human blood, it was much more satisfying then animal blood but it came with a lot more baggage then hunting animals. Edward usually tried to keep his victims in the dark, not allowing them to see him so that he wouldn’t have to deal with their thoughts. There had been rare times in which he had to deal with their thoughts and it was horrible. He felt terrible for Jasper though, having to deal with the way the person had felt for so many years, he couldn’t imagine that at all. The fact that Rose had killed several men, who did deserve it, but never drank their blood was something she deserved credit for. He hadn’t met the men, though having been living in the area during that time, he’d caught their thoughts once in a while and heard of them, wasn’t’ too fond of them at that point. Though he didn’t use it very often, Edward was glad that he had the ability to manipulate people to get his own way at times, much like Rosalie could do.
He nodded, “That is true.” he agreed with her. Seeing her roll her eyes he grinned slightly, this was probably one of their more enjoyable conversations, not like they could actually go at it in the middle of the cafeteria. He laughed lightly at her comment, “You’ve got a point. I’m sure he won’t even come within three feet of the table until we’re no longer here.” Edward said he liked the fact that humans knew subconsciously that there was something unsafe about them. It kept him relatively human free. At her statement Edward pursed his lips for a moment, might as well tell her now, “I seem to have hit a small wall, I guess you could call it. I’m not sure why, but someone’s immune to my ability” Edward said, of course he was leaving out the other part, she didn’t need to know that just yet, this was a big enough problem. “If only they knew” Edward said with a smile. “Of course I don’t expect it, I just though I’d give you the benefit of the doubt.” he said with a shrug.

Rosalie could not fathom as to why Edward left. Yes, she understood the "rebellious streak" part, but why he would follow through. Carlisle had given him this life, taught him how to go with it and built up so much, and then Edward just left? Yes, human blood was sickeningly sweet-smelling and hard to resist -she would know- but why would he leave just to try it and get addicted for three years? She just didn't get it. When Rosalie killed the seven men when she was a mere newborn vampire, it was very hard to not give into their blood, with the exception of Royce's. She refused to have his tainted in her.
Rosalie shrugged lightly. "And even then, he might not.” Rosalie joked. She, too, liked it when humans knew subconsciously that there was something unsafe about them, or just when they were took afraid to come up to them. It amused her to the fullest. Rosalie nodded as he started his answer. Her expression changed immediately when he said the problem. "Immune?" she repeated, "What? What do you mean 'immune'?" It was very rare -in fact, it never happened at all- that he came across someone whose mind he couldn't read like a book. Rosalie shrugged too, "Oddly I'm not up for it."

Edward rarely talked about the little rebellious stage he had, he wasn’t proud of it, not even close. It had something to do with wanting to be able to do his own thing. He’d been quite surprised that he hadn’t met much resistance in leaving though from either Carlisle or Esme, but not quite as surprising as when he returned, when they welcomed him like nothing had happened. Nothing like that would happen again, he refused to allow himself to do that. Returning to the vegetarian diet again wasn’t as difficult as the first time, but he hadn’t slipped up since ’32. He was glad Rosalie hadn’t tasted the human blood, proud in a sense even that she was that strong at that young in her new life.
He nodded, “You may be right. The table rarely smells like it’s had any human contact” he said with a smile, laughing just slightly. Edward was more intimidating then he naturally was at school and around humans. He didn’t want them close to him, they annoyed him mostly and it was probably better if an annoyed Edward stayed away from humans. Edward watched his sister for her reaction to his words, it wasn’t something that you would just write off, he knew that, she would understand the enormity of it. Edward nodded. “I hear nothing. Not a thing, complete and utter silence.” Edward said, the frustration clearly showing in his voice and his eyes subconsciously finding Bella in the crowd attempting to try and hear her thoughts again and failing completely. He turned back to her when she spoke again. “Didn’t think so”

Rosalie had only heard little of Edward's rebellious stage. She had to ask about it to Carlisle and Esme, and even they weren't too keen to talk about themselves. Rosalie was disgusted by any thought or mention of Royce. He was a hard subject to talk about. She hated him and was glad that she killed him, him and those other six men that had been with him that night that she was...changed. She resented men like that. She couldn't even stand to be in the same room with anyone who resembled him in the slightest way possible.
"Gee, I wonder why." Rosalie sarcastically retorted, fiddling with her plastic spoon. Humans annoyed Rosalie too, the fact that they, too, tried to be something they're not. Like intelligent. Most were not, but pretended to be. It made her want to laugh her butt off, but she couldn't for that would raise suspicion whcih was the last thing the Cullen's needed. She gaped; they had never had to deal with such a problem before. “Nothing?” Rosalie repeated, "Not even the slightest of anything? Does Carlisle know of this?" She asked, perhaps Edward was just keeping this fact from her because of he may have feared her reaction.

Edward never brought up the rebellious three years of his, though if you were curious enough to ask him about it he had no difficulty telling you about it. He just preferred for it to be off the mind of everyone. Usually when you talked about something like that, it stayed on the other persons mind for a while, that would cause Edward to think about it for longer then he would want. He hadn’t been against Rosalie joining the family because of anything she could be blamed for but because they hadn’t only arrived in Rochester maybe a year earlier and moving wasn’t quite an option yet. He was worried someone would recognize the well known Rosalie Hale. But it worked out and no-one was the wiser. It was despicable what Royce and his friends had done to his sister, Edward didn’t blame her for killing them, not at all. They deserved it. That was how Edward had sanctioned his killings for three years, ridding the world of those that shouldn’t be around.
Edward laughed at her comment, “Good point, I hate to have to sit here and not only endure the smell of this food but their scent on and about the table” Edward said. It would be worse close up and lingering constantly on this table. Of course he was more worried about how Jasper would be forced to sit through a harder lunch, he would hate that. Edward knew first hand how stupid, idiotic and simple minded humans could be. One of many reasons why he was close to hating them. Of course you did come across the rare human that was quite intelligent and held vast amounts of common sense. Edward’s jaw locked in place as she spoke, this was more then frustrating, it was maddening, being refused her thoughts. He’d figure out a way in. “Nothing. It’s like she doesn’t exist, well it would be if I couldn’t see or smell her” Edward said, a bit of longing evident in the word smell. Though he knew he wouldn’t be able smell her at this distance he pulled in a breath, disappointed with not smelling the wonderfully sweet smell. He shook his head, “Not yet, only you. Well I’m sure Alice knows. I though it may have just been myself being too preoccupied so I didn’t mention anything but now, it may become a problem” he said looking back to Rosalie.

Rosalie could strongly remember her newborn days. Like when he was first being changed. Edward had been complaining about Carlisle giving her a 'second chance' and in a very rude way in Rosalie's opinion. He spoke her name as if it were the plague, something Rosalie was not used to nor would she want to hear ever again. Then when he explained his actions, it lightened up the situations a little. But she wasn't thrilled. She was still a newborn and she didn't understand that they would have to move around a lot.
"I hate to have to sit at this table anyway. For a good four years, it is such a waste of time. I mean, I understand we have eternity, but still." Rosalie stated. Rosalie knew of Jasper's weakness to human blood and understood it. She just wished that he would learn to control it better. It was a lot to ask, but Rosalie alway had high standards for people who she associated with. Rosalie noticed how Edward's jaw locked. She almost smirked, it happened when he got ticked off. That meant that something he heard infuriated him. She figured it was probably something that he was hearing in someone else's mind. “That's peculiar...” Rosalie configured. She had been the second eldest 'child' in her family [fourth in reality] so she had been around for the longest time and couldn't remember if they had been through this before. She finally settled on the idea that they hadn't. “May?” Rosalie repeated, "Edward, this could be bad. If you can't hear her, have you thought of the possibilities that could be the reason behind this?"

Edward’s new born years were really all that bad, the most pain had been figuring out and regulating the new voices within his head. Of course, naturally it had freaked him out at first which had made him defensive with Carlisle a few times. But once they got it figured out and Edward was use to it, him and Carlisle couldn’t get on any better. He recalled his all but silent concerns and dislike for Rosalie entering the family, the whole time standing over her with Carlisle. He was rude yes, but worried for the small families safety at that time. It was the first and only formal apology he’d given her, as well as explaining why he’d acted that way.
“Least you’ve only got to suffer it out for four years, Alice and I have at least five years of school.” Edward said his lip curling slightly in distaste for that. He enjoyed Alice’s company almost more then anyone else’s but when it was just the two of them in school she tried to make him more outgoing or friendlier. It just didn’t work. As his jaw made to lock, he saw Rosalie think about smirking, thankfully she’d didn’t that would have just cause more irritation towards things. But she was off this time, it wasn’t what he heard it was what he hadn’t heard that bothered him today. Edward looked at her and raised an eyebrow, “Peculiar? Its much more then that.” he’d said through gritted teeth. This should be impossible, he should not be locked out of a mere humans mind, he could get use to a vampire locking him out. But a human? He wouldn’t stand for that one. “I doubt she’s going to be much of a problem, she’s a mere human. Nothing special that I can determine. It shouldn’t be possible.” his frustration was clearly showing at this point but he’d been keeping his voice low. “She seems completely oblivious to any sort of danger we possess. Its not her mind I’m worried about” he said, muttering the last part under his breath, she’d hear it clearly though he figured. Ninety one years of this ability and this life and he'd never met two challenges quite like this

Rosalie did not have a 'gift' like Alice, Edward and Jasper did. During her transformation, her looks increased in beauty. For the first few times she saw herself, Rosalie could not get enough of her reflection. She was so happy that she was still beautiful in the supernatural life. She didn't know that Edward could hear her very self-absorbed thoughts, she thought his grimace in annoyance was just because he shared the dislike towards her that she had with him. His attitude didn't do much to offend Rosalie, but it did upset her a little. Rosalie disliked all of the Cullen's in her human life because they were gorgeous, far more gorgeous than she was. So immediately when they came to the town, they each got on her bad side. She didn't bother to give a chance for them to meet them and get to know them. She could remember how her parents had told her that they were good people, but Rosalie wouldn't give them the chance to prove that to her.
Rosalie shrugged, "I suppose. But that is bad for you. And you know the material well too, as does Alice. Rosalie didn't particularly care what went on at school when she, Emmett or Jasper weren't there, unless it was about her. Rosalie rolled her eyes, "You know what I mean. How the hell could this have happened? No one's been able to avoid your gift before, right?" She asked, refering to before she was around in the Cullen family. "She better not; This isn't particularly something that I want to be dealing with on my last year having to go to school here." Rosalie scoffed. This girl seemed like a true moron to her. Most of every human here knew to never confront any of the Cullens, for they had a feeling that something was dangerous about it. They were correct of course; each of them could drain them to nothing in a short moment. "Then what are you worried about?" Rosalie asked.

Edward hadn’t been all to fond of the New York, a lot of people were very full of themselves there, and it annoyed him to have to be the only one to really suffer from it constantly because of the thoughts. Edward should have figured that Rosalie would love her reflection after the change and at some point he’d been tempted to remove every mirror in the house but knew Esme wouldn’t have been too happy with him if he would have. She was the hardest in the family to adjust to, what with her moods and personality, and the fact that the two were rather similar. But neither would ever admit that to anyone or themselves. Knowing of her dislike for the small family of three before she entered it so his hostility towards her was somewhat expected in his mind, though he hadn’t shared his knowledge with Carlisle or Esme so they had no idea why he wasn’t so friendly. It was the first time they’d really seen Edward like that, since they were his parents he wasn’t anything but respectful.
He nodded in agreement. “Yes, its quite annoying but there isn’t much that can be done about it.” he said with a small shrug and fiddled with the bottle of coke on his tray. He wasn’t sure why humans drank this stuff its smelt really bad, and one item of human food that he refused to eat when it was needed. “I don’t know, I didn’t think it was possible. There aren’t suppose to be restrictions like this as far as I know. Distance was the only think that prevented me before.” Edward told her, and even distance wasn’t’ too much of a problem he could hear people at least five miles away, even if it was very faint he could still her it. He turned to her when she mentioned not wanting to deal with it because it was her last year. “You won’t have to worry about anything, Carlisle must have an answer to this” he said but it wasn’t exactly the most confident thing he’d ever said, this did worry him especially since she wasn’t too keen on keeping distance. Though what bothered him more was the fact that he didn’t really mind that she wasn’t afraid but that he would keep to himself. He pulled his brow together slightly at her question, a slightly uncomfortable expression on his face, not sure how she’d take this. “Don’t over react okay?” Edward said dropping his voice so that only she’d be able to hear him. “The fact that every time I’m within ah ‘smelling’ distance, all I want to do is kill her. Within a couple of seconds I’ve already come up with ten possibly ways.” Edward said unable to prevent the images from filtering through his mind knowing he’d lose the gold color to his eyes shortly.

If Edward removed all the mirrors in the household during her newborn days, Rosalie would have had a newborn tantrum and go off on him like a bomb. Seeing herself was like a necessity during her newborn days, just something that would lighten up her endless day. Her beauty was the only thing she saw as a positive plus thing to look forward to as a vampire. Despite Rosalie's hatred for vampiristic life, her beauty was something that she enjoyed from it. Of course, that was in her newborn days. Two years later, [1935] she ran into Emmett being mauled by a bear. She saved him and he kept on calling her 'Angel'. That bugged her; vampires were most definately not angels, and even if they were, Rosalie did not see herself as one. She realized when Edward was being hostile to her shortly after she woke up from he transformation, that Carlisle and Esme were unfamiliar with Edward's sudden change in behavior. Esme assured that Rosalie had done nothing wrong, and Carlisle went to go talk to Edward and find out why he was acting like that. Even with her heightened senses, she couldn't make out exactly what they were talking about.
Rosalie nodded in agreement. Even though she had to go through high school shorter times, it was still beyond annoying. Rosalie looked down at what else she had bought to "eat". There wasn't much. Since Rosalie was tiny, she didn't have to waste as much food as Emmett would. Even though they had to feign to eat it, they would still have to live up to what they would supposedly eat if they were still human. She had purchased a small can of soda, a salad, apple, and a slice of bread. She grabbed the slice of bread and slowly tore it apart. She tore her attention from the bread back over to Edward as he explained. She nodded as he mentioned 'distance' was the only one that was most common. "Distance obviously doesn't apply here; she's within the classroom borders." she said. "Of course he should." She replied, more to convince herself than reaffirm Edward. Rosalie noticed his eyebrows furrow together and raised her own. She didn't have to be Jasper to tell he was uncomfortable. Her eyes turned to silts as he said not to freak out. When he explained she didn't freak out. She figured that it was normal behavior for a vampire. But she did become curious when he said about his plans to kill her within quick and mere seconds. "Well, Alice has yet to mention anything to any of us about you killing her yet." she replied to him.

He’d also known that Rosalie, being a new born at the time may have attacked him had he removed even just one mirror and he preferred no physically fighting to actually fighting. And he didn’t want to worry Esme or Carlisle with fighting Rosalie. Once he’d learned to block her thoughts like the other’s around him she wasn’t so hard to live with, though he hadn’t been expecting another family member so soon. But well Edward was more welcoming to Emmett once he’d been changed and informed of everything. Him and Emmett were very close, as if they were actual brothers. He agreed with Rosalie on the thing about ‘angel’, vampires were monsters; they just made things a bit better with only killing animals instead of humans. Edward hadn’t been use to the fact that Rosalie would be very similar to him and with her thoughts being a bit annoying, he’d been more irritated for a while. But Carlisle had pulled him aside and they had a bit of a talk to see what was going on, it was half spoke through thoughts with Edward just answering the questions and quickly explaining. It had been suggested that he apologize and he did, though that was the first and last time he’d apologize to her in so many words.
Edward did enjoy learning, but it was what he did to pass the time during the night hours while the rest of the family were off by themselves, he needed something to busy himself with. So learning, or lack of, in school was a bit redundant at times and annoyed him. Edward hated wasting food, it seemed stupid, but they had to eat or rather pretend, he’d rather they go ‘home’ for lunch everyday it seemed simple enough. While he fiddled with the bottle of liquid, refusing to put the grease from the pizza on his fingers, he saw her pick up a piece of bread. “No, not at all since our seats are barely three feet apart in biology and I still hear complete silence.” he said with a sigh. He nodded when she assured herself that Carlisle would have an answer. He’d lived with the Volturi for a century, which was bound to give him some insight. Edward was rarely uncomfortable in anything but he’d never experienced something like this before, it was a rather emotional filled experience and he wasn’t too fond of it. He noticed her eyes narrow and maybe he shouldn’t have warned her but oh well, it didn’t matter. “That’s probably because I find a reason each time as to why I shouldn’t kill her.” Edward said, his vampire instincts wanting him to turn towards Bella but he refused it wouldn’t be a good idea. “I’ve never wanted anyone’s blood as much as I do hers. Its unbelievably sweet smelling, better. I’m not sure how long I’ll last” he said swallowing the venom that had formed in his mouth as the hand on the table formed into a fist. He may have to skip biology today.
